It was established in 1992, and has 192 Parties today, with three main objectives: 1. the conservation of biodiversity; 2. the sustainable subprogram of its components; and 3. fair and equitable sharing of benefits arising out of the utilization of inheritable resources. The Secretariat of the CBD (SCBD) was established to move up out the goals of the Convention.
